In one recent instance, my crazy schedule got the better of me; I found myself, just days before an event, without a dress, and even worse, without a "beauty dream team" to get my hair and face red carpet-ready. Q: As a salon owner, how should I deal with jealousy between some of my stylists?

A: Get to the root of the jealousy immediately, especially if it is causing conflict in the salon. You’re probably going to have to play the role of mediator. If a stylist is jealous because others are busier than he/she, then spin it around to motivate him/her to consider what others are
providing their clientele to make them want to return. Maybe it’s a stellar scalp massage or running next door to Starbucks and picking up their favorite drink before they arrive. If stylists are jealous due to preferential treatment others are receiving, as an owner you need to listen to their feelings and evaluate.

A: I believe unity can exist in any environment when regulations and boundaries are set in place. In booth rental salons it’s all about having an up-front rental agreement with clear and concise rules; realistic expectations and practical policies regarding day-today operations and details on what renters are required to adhere to once they commit to renting a chair. Most important, the agreement should spell out the follow through and communication that is expected among the tenants. Remember, clients never really know they are in a rental salon or what that even means. To them the salon is the name on the door. So regardless of whether or not it’s a rental situation, rules still apply and standards must be set and adhered to.

Lo más importante, el acuerdo debe precisar el seguimiento a través de la comunicación y que se espera entre los locatarios . Recuerde , los clientes nunca saben que están en un salón de alquiler o lo que incluso significa. Para ellos, el salón es el nombre en la puerta . Así que, independientemente de si es o no es una situación de alquiler , las normas siguen siendo aplicables y las normas deben establecerse y seguirse .

TABATHA'S SALON TAKEOVER/ TABATHA TAKES OVER (May 8, 2012)

Tabatha's Salon Takeover, known in Spain as "Tabatha, I need you!" TDT channel thanks to Divinity, is an American Reality in key Coach Show helps hairdressers out of economic trouble in which they find themselves. The expert in beauty salons Tabatha Coffey is an experienced hairdresser who runs their own salons in the U.S. and was also a contestant on another reality show for Bravo, the network in which the last four seasons is issued Tabatha's Salon Takeover. The format produced by Reveille Productions gave a twist in this latest batch of episodes broadcast in early 2012, now not only helps Tabatha classrooms, but also ventures into coffee shops and other small businesses. Thus, from the fourth season, the reality show Tabatha Coffey renamed Tabatha Takes Over simply.

Tabatha's Salon Takeover, conocido en España como "Tabatha, ¡Te necesito!" gracias al canal de TDT Divinity, es un Reality estadounidense que en clave de Coach Show ayuda a peluquerías a salir de los apuros económicos en los que se encuentran. La experta en centros de belleza es Tabatha Coffey, una peluquera experimentada que regenta sus propios salones en EEUU y que además fue concursante en otro reality show de Bravo, la cadena en la que desde hace cuatro temporadas se emite Tabatha's Salon Takeover. El formato producido por Reveille Productions dio un giro de tuerca en esta última tanda de episodios emitida a principios de 2012; ahora Tabatha no sólo ayuda a salones, sino que también se atreve con cafeterías y otros pequeños negocios. De esta forma, a partir de la cuarta temporada, el reality de Tabatha Coffey pasó a llamarse simplemente Tabatha Takes Over. 

 The program begins revealing the hair salon that later Tabatha help. Drawing on a supposed hidden cameras installed in the classroom, the program shows how it works inside said premises: the behavior of hairdressers, decoration, cleaning ... Tabatha, who sees everything from a room with screens, decides to intervene in one point, called the owner to leave the establishment. basically, "sings the forty."

El programa comienza dando a conocer la peluquería a la que más tarde Tabatha ayudará. Sirviéndose de unas supuestas cámaras ocultas instaladas dentro del salón, el programa muestra cómo funciona dicho local por dentro: el comportamiento de los peluqueros, la decoración, la limpieza...  Tabatha, que lo ve todo desde una habitación con pantallas, decide intervenir en un momento dado; llama al propietario para que salga del establecimiento y. básicamente, "le canta las cuarenta".

Once inside the salon, Tabatha is presented to the rest of the staff, takes control of the business owner taking his keys and insinuates that if things do not change, some of these will end up losing their jobs at the end of the week. After all this drama begin reforms to give a facelift to the beauty center.

Tabatha usually organizes a meeting with the staff of the center, behind the head, to know what your point of view and well know, first hand, why the business is not working. Then come a few customers and Coffey notes technical and behavior of hairdressers, correcting them if necessary.

 Una vez dentro del salón de belleza, Tabatha se presenta al resto del personal, toma el control del negocio cogiéndole las llaves al propietario e insinúa que, si las cosas no cambian, alguno de los presentes acabará perdiendo su trabajo al final de la semana. Tras todo este drama comienzan las reformas para dar un lavado de cara al centro de belleza.

Normalmente Tabatha organiza una reunión con el personal del centro, a espaldas del jefe,  para conocer cuál es su punto de vista y así saber, de primera mano, por qué el negocio no está funcionando. Luego llegan unos clientes y Coffey observa la técnica y el comportamiento de los peluqueros, corrigiéndoles si es necesario. 

In the last stage of the program seeks to strengthen the connection of the group with some kind of game or activity to improve teamwork. While the home is closed pending a makeover, new decor, new tools for hairdressing, more light ... Finally lounge reopen and begin to get new customers. Coffey examines the improvements of staff and gives the owner the latest tips, and returns the keys in front of the other barbers, advises who should be fired.

Six weeks later Tabatha back and see firsthand the new changes and if the ultimate owner, on his advice, fired someone.

En la última etapa del programa se intenta reforzar la conexión del grupo con algún tipo de juego o actividad para mejorar el trabajo en equipo. Mientras, el local queda clausurado a la espera de un cambio de imagen; nueva decoración, nuevos instrumentos de peluquería, más luz... Finalmente el salón vuelve a abrir y comienzan a entrar nuevos clientes. Coffey examina las mejoras del personal y da los últimos consejos al propietario; le devuelve las llaves y, delante del resto de peluqueros, le aconseja a quién debería despedir.

Seis semanas más tarde Tabatha vuelve y observa en primera persona los nuevos cambios y si finalmente el propietario, siguiendo su consejo, ha despedido a alguien.

Definitely the format is, at least, curious. At first sight a reality show about hairdressers not draw much attention, but really the program engages thanks, especially, to Tabatha Coffey. Cold and authoritarian, Coffey, create extreme situations where tension and emotions can be felt through the TV screen.

 Definitivamente el formato es, cuanto menos, curioso. A primera vista un reality sobre peluquerías no llama mucho la atención, pero realmente el programa engancha gracias, sobretodo, a Tabatha Coffey. Since her appearance first on the Bravo reality show Shear Genius, sassy and abrasive hair salon owner Tabatha Coffey has become one of Bravo’s biggest reality television stars. After her work on Shear Genius, she began taping her own reality show, Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, in which she visits troubled salons with often aggressive staff. Her goal is to turn around the entire business in a week –  and in the process, Tabatha is not afraid to alert staff when they are out of line, criticize salons that are downright disgusting, and even instruct the owner that selling the salon is the best idea. For Season 4, Tabatha’s reality show has evolved once more, into Tabatha Takes Over, in which she branches out to a gay bar, a frozen yogurt store, and even a doggie daycare.

Tabatha Coffey is nothing short of obnoxiously opinionated. A native of Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia, Coffey’s reputation precedes her at any location she takes over. After revitalizing many salons, according to a recent interview in the Hollywood Reporter, she believed that, “It was such a natural progression (to take over more than just salons). I believe business principles are business principles, they follow through. So, it was a great transition to now move into other businesses not just hair salons.” Tabatha often says that it is exciting to see a salon, or any other business, go from “rags to riches,” especially in this economy. Somehow Tabatha is almost always successful in turning around her assigned salon, and has an uncanny ability to revamp every aspect of the business, from the attitude of the owners, to the cleanliness of the staff,  even to the way salons advertise.

As someone who watches the show regularly, I can never get enough of Tabatha’s “no nonsense” approach. Many of the salon owners and staff are simply out of touch with reality, and need the stern tactics of Tabatha to alert them to how idiotic their decisions are. In a recent episode, a salon owner yelled throughout the episode that she had lost complete faith in her staff, even after her staff had shown significant improvements. Tabatha did not even hesitate to instruct the owner to sell the salon immediately. In another recent episode it was revealed that a salon owner was living in the salon. Tabatha took it upon herself to help the owner find a place to live, and even got her discounts. In every episode, Tabatha’s unique ability to instruct and coerce business owners and staff is nothing short of remarkable
