Tabatha’s Takeover: Did Allison Williams Make This Dress Work?

We all know Tabatha Coffey, Bravo’s sharp-tongued Aussie style pro, from her stint on Shear Genius and her latest hit, Tabatha Takes Over. And now, she’s bringing her talents online, joining us at PEOPLE StyleWatch once weekly to dish on some of the best – and worst – celebrity looks of the week. Keep in mind the opinions below belong solely to the stylist … though she’s probably saying what lots of you are thinking, anyway!

Today, she takes on Girls star Allison Williams, who chose this covered-up frock for Monday’s Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. About 60 percent of you didn’t like it — but what did Coffey think?

I can see why Allison Williams is referred to as America’s Kate Middleton; she is a natural beauty. This Girls star, and daughter of Mr. Nightly News Brian Williams, exudes class and poise and looked quite lovely at the recent Gotham Independent Film Awards.

From the top of her head, right down to her heels, everything about this look was well thought out and executed. Her hair is styled perfectly. I really applaud her hairstylist for choosing to leave it down with a natural wave. If it was up off her shoulders I think it would have aged her immensely.

Makeup is natural and flawless. Now, I don’t mention this often, but I love her nail color. Nail color rarely makes a lasting impression on the red carpet unless it is extremely bright in color or photographed up close. Here you can see the hue and it’s because the pink dress is acting as its backdrop.

El maquillaje es natural y sin defectos. Ahora, yo no mencionan esto a menudo, pero me encanta su color de uñas. Now let’s move on to the dress, shall we? Although it works for her and she totally pulls it off, I personally don’t like it. I feel it looks a bit granny-ish and like a nightgown. And the black beading at the bottom is driving me mad! I will say that I think the color pairs perfectly with her skin tone and her shoes and earrings are her saving grace. The shoes give a youthful balance to the dress, which is needed. Having said that, it’s not my personal style, but I think she looks good overall.

Ahora vamos a pasar a la vestimenta, ¿de acuerdo? A pesar de que trabaja para ella y ella lo logra totalmente, yo personalmente no me gusta. Creo que se ve un poco abuelita-ish y como un camisón.
