Tabatha Take Over 6 "Salon Bridgette"

It's a family affair at Salon Bridgette, where Bridgette Orcutt, the passive aggressive owner, treats her enabling mother like a maid and allows her spoiled daughter to get away with everything. Tabatha will need to deal with everything from a stylist who comes to work unprepared to assistants who aren't given the encouragement to get behind the chair. But her biggest challenge will be to motivate Bridgette to change her negative ways so she can start motivating her team.

I don't think I have ever met an owner that said she needed to fire herself! Bridgette was so overwhelmed with her financial situation that she had totally given up. In fact her favorite phrase was, "What's the point, nobody listens."

This defeatist attitude of Bridgette's had affected her business, and she didn't realize it. She felt so overwhelmed that instead of leading her staff and setting expectations, she approached them in a passive-aggressive, negative way, because she felt they wouldn't do the right thing anyway. When I spoke to the staff, they all agreed that Bridgette had no rules, got distracted easily, was negative, and that they didn't listen to her because she had no follow through.

Another problem in the salon was Chelsea and Peggy! Peggy enabled Bridgette, and I understood the motherly love, but it wasn't helping. Chelsea acted entitled and the staff resented it. It's never easy working with family, and I needed to get Bridgette to understand she had to stand on her own two feet and hold Chelsea accountable.

I realized it was going to take some work to get through to her and that's when I decided to utilize China, her horse. After speaking with her, it was clear she had an issue with being authoritative. She didn't want to be viewed as mean, which carried over into all aspects of her life, even with her horse. I was amazed with the changes in Bridgette and the staff. Who knew being on the farm for the day would bring out the boss in her.

I don't know about you, but going into business with family members just seems like a bad idea. You know you're not going to be able to truly crack the whip when need be, and that's exactly what Bridgette's problem was. Her mother never said no to her, and Bridgette didn't say no to her daughter, Chelsea (or the rest of the staff for that matter). It took a dose of Tabatha toughness to get this team back on track, but not without some troubling moments along the way.

Really?! Moment No. 3 - Nap Time

Since Bridgette doesn't enforce any of her rules (well, all two of them -- no cell phones and be on time), why wouldn't her employees take advantage of her? One of the more egregious offenses being Jason's personal nap space. This just brings the phrase "lying down on the job" to a whole new level.

Really?! Moment No. 2 - A Hairy Situation

Bridgette's mom may have been cleaning the salon for free, but you certainly get what you paid for. Bridgette's carpet was covered in hair due to Chelsea's "forgetfulness" when it comes to vacuuming. But that wasn't the only hairy area. Even the salon's business cards were covered in hair. Bleh! I thought you went into a salon to leave with less hair, not more.

Really?! Moment No. 1 - Take It Like a Man

Tabatha really let Jason have it when she inspected his work station. I mean, that hairy rag at the bottom of the drawer was gross (again, there is hair everywhere in this salon), but Tabatha really took him to task when he tried to be coy and boyish about it. Watching Tabatha yell at him to man up was, well, difficult. But hey, in the end he did get his act together so I suppose it was worth the pain and humiliation.

¿En serio? Momento N º 1 - Take It Like a Man
